Monochamus saltuarius

Male body length 11.9–18.4 mm, width 4.0–5.5 mm. Pronotum 1.5 mm long, with sparse and relatively long fringes of dark brown hairs laterally; surface dorso-laterally with numerous small granulae, covered with dense and fine yellowish pubescence (individual hairs twice as long as in any other European Monochamus species) and a few brownish setae; dorso-medially mostly with very weak micro-reticulation, with a more or less shining area medially, and a very weak longitudinal impression. Scutellum with a narrow, glabrous, transversal median line (visible in well preserved specimens). Elytra with dense and smooth granulation concentrated at the basal part only; pronotum and elytra covered with large yellowish and white spots often forming a transversal band medially on elytra. Antennae bear eight types of sensilla: Böhm bristles, sensilla chaetica (subtypes I and II), sensilla trichodea (subtypes I–III), sensilla auricillica, sensilla basiconica (subtypes I and II), sensilla grooved peg, dome shaped organs, and cuticular pores.
