The Republic of Korea is proposing the amendment of the "Special Act on Imported Food Safety Control". It is to prepare the basis for disclosing information by the Minister of Food and Drug Safety about foreign manufacturing facilities or establishments where import suspension has been imposed or lifted.
The proposed amendments mainly focus on the following: - Revising the requirements for dossier to be submitted to get an approval for the veterinary pharmaceutical products. With regard to the designation of the clinical trial institution and the non-clinical trial institution for the veterinary pharmaceutical products.

The proposed amendments seek to: 1. Revise the dossier for the accreditation of functional ingredients: - Relieve the range of dossier; - Clarify the dossier for specific intake target such as child; 2. Expand the range of consumption data; 3. Clarify the material that not eligible for application of functional ingredients.
The proposed amendments seek to: 1. Reflect the changes of "Food Code" and "Food Additives Code"; 2. Add the unit, IU (International Units for daily intake), in "Vitamin A, Vitamin D, Vitamin E"; 3. Revise the daily intake amount in "Glucosamine"; 4. Remove repeated phrase ('less than 2% of threonic acid') in "Vitamin C"; 5. The proposed amendments seek to: 1. Remove the total acid standards of Korean rice wines (Takju, Yakju and Cheongju) and realign the classification of alcoholic beverages; 2. Revise the manufacturing and processing standards of foods for infants/young children.
The proposed amendment seeks to: - Any person who fails to make proper filing of pork or pork-based products produced/manufactured in African Swine Fever (ASF)-affected countries can be imposed with an administrative fine of KRW 5 million for the first time, KRW 7.5 million for the second time and KRW 10 million for the third time to prevent the spread of ASF in Korea.- Any person who fails to make proper filing of other products can be fined with KRW 1 million for the first time, KRW 3 million for the second time and KRW 5 million for the third time.

The Republic of Korea is proposing to amend the "Standards and Specifications for the Food Additives": 1) The synonym and INS No. for sucrose esters of fatty acids are added; 2) The definition of natural flavouring substances is revised, to include the microbiological or enzymatic processes as the manufacture method of natural flavouring substances; 3) 114 compounds for the synthetic flavouring substances are newly allowed; 4) The standards for the use of the following 10 food additives are revised: Gold leaf, Sorbic acid, Potassium sorbate, Calcium sorbate, Sodium Metabisulfite, Potassium Metabisulfite, Sulfur Dioxide, Sodium Bisulfite, Sodium Sulfite, Sodium Hydrosulfite.

Establish new standards and testing methods for anisidine and total oxidize value in "Edible Oil contain EPA DHA"; 3. Establish new standard for total arsenic value in "Glucosamine"; 4. Revise the health claims in "Fructo-oligosaccharide".
The Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency (APQA), Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) in the Republic of Korea, has added a prohibited host (fresh lime leaves) regarding of Citrus huanglongbing (greening) disease, one of the prohibited quarantine pest of Korea, which is based on the result of Pest Risk Analysis (PRA) on account of detection of insect vectors (Diaphorina citri) in imported fresh lime leaves. The proposed amendments seek to: 1. Revise the maximum residue limits of pesticides in agricultural products: - Establish and revise MRLs of 76 pesticides including Iminoctadine; 2. Establish General Test Methods for four pesticides including Quinoxyfen in agricultural products.
The Special Act on Imported Food Safety Control has been amended to include new regulations on the import sanitation requirements for "the food for special sanitation management". This proposed rule describes the products subject to the subordinate regulation to the Act, countries eligible for export of "the food for special sanitation management" and import sanitation requirements.
