After a technical review of information provided by Taiwan, MPI has decided to reinstate the vapour heat treatment (VHT) pathway for mango from Taiwan. The VHT pathway for lychee and mango from Taiwan were suspended due to interception of fruit flies on lychee consignment at the New Zealand border. The VHT pathway for mango from Taiwan will be reinstated, however, the VHT pathway for lychee from Taiwan will remain suspended while an assessment of efficacious treatment is undertaken to manage the risk of fruit flies on lychee from Taiwan.

Febantel, to update the MRLs to 0.05 mg/kg in mammalian fat, 0.05 mg/kg in mammalian kidney, 0.5 mg/kg in mammalian liver, and 0.05 mg/kg in mammalian meat. Mefentrifluconazole, to set MRLs at 0.07 mg/kg in grapes and 0.01(*) mg/kg in pome fruits. Methomyl, to remove the MRL for pome fruits. >(*) indicates that the maximum residue level has been set at or about the limit of analytical quantification.The removal of existing entries in Schedule 1, Maximum Residue Levels for Agricultural Compounds, for azaconazole, fenarimol, fenbuconazole, and tolylfluanid. The addition of new entries in Schedule 3, for Veterinary Medicines for Which No Maximum Residue Level Applies, for the following compounds: Adenosine and its 5'-mono-, 5'-di-, and 5'-triphosphates, when used as a vasodilator in animals. Performic acid, when used as a teat sanitiser on dairy cattle.

Equine piroplasmosis, caused by Theileria equi and Babesia caballi are exotic to New Zealand. When importing horses from an equine piroplasmosis infected country, additional to the two serological tests recommended in the Terrestrial Animal Health Code, a PCR assay must also be carried out (with negative results shown). Both parasites can be detected in one generic PCR test.
MPI intends to amend the import health standard 152.02 Importation and Clearance of Fresh Fruit and Vegetables into New Zealand for fresh citrus fruit from Australia on 10 November 2021, reflecting the removal of phytosanitary measures for citrus canker and recognition of Australia's status of country freedom from citrus canker.
MPI is amending the Import Health Standard: Grain and seeds for consumption, feed or processing. The import health standard dated 12 November 2021 replaces the earlier version of the standard dated 21 June 2021.The amendment is to remove the import requirements from GCFP.IHS for the below organisms:1. Artichoke yellow ringspot virus on Phaseolus spp.;2. Clover yellow mosaic virus on Pisum spp. and Vicia spp.;3. Pea enation mosaic virus on Pisum spp. and Vicia spp.;4. Peanut stunt virus on Phaseolus spp. and Vicia spp.;5. Red clover vein mosaic virus on Vicia spp.;6. Sunflower ringspot virus on Helianthus spp.Consultation is not required for this amendment. This is because consultations were conducted when removing these organisms from the seeds for sowing import health standard (the highest-risk pathway for the import of seeds) and no concerns were raised during the consultation period. This amendment does not suggest any additional import requirements to the import health standard. It only removes unjustified and inaccurate requirements for specified organisms to facilitate trade.

This addendum concerns:- The addition of import requirements for Cucumis melo (melon) and Citrullus lanatus (watermelon) seeds for sowing imported into New Zealand.The purpose of the new requirements is to manage risk of Melon necrotic spot virus on the known hosts.The new Melon necrotic spot virus requirements are included within the Cucumis schedule (part 2.27 of the import health standard Seeds for Sowing (155.02.05)).- A modification includes removal of proposed measures from cucumber seeds (Cucumis sativus) and addition of another option for testing i.e. ISTA-approved ELISA for testing for Melon necrotic spot virus.

MPI proposes a change to the testing requirement for Pepino mosaic virus in the specific requirements for tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) in the Import Health Standard: Seeds for Sowing (155.02.05) to require that: seeds are officially tested, on a representative sample of a minimum of 3,000 seeds officially drawn according to the ISTA or AOSA sampling methodology, using an NPPO-approved ELISA or NPPO-approved PCR testing method and found free from Pepino mosaic virusCurrently, the testing requirement for Pepino mosaic virus for tomato seeds for sowing in the Import Health Standard: Seeds for Sowing (155.02.05) requires that "seeds are officially tested, on a representative sample, and using appropriate methods, and found to be free from Pepino mosaic virus The proposed amendment strengthens the measures for Pepino mosaic virus in the Import Health Standard: Seeds for Sowing (155.02.05) by making the testing requirements more prescriptive.
