The United Arab Emirates is lifting the ban on the importation of domestic and wild birds and their untreated by-product, day-old chicks, hatching eggs, poultry meat and table eggs from Bulgaria, on 24 September 2019. This follows the publishing of the Follow-up report No. 3 (Final report) of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Bulgaria on 11 July 2019, and in compliance with Article 10.4.4, Chapter 10.4 of the OIE Terrestrial Animal Health Code.

Following the notification published by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) on 13 October 2019 concerning documented cases of Rift Valley fever (RVF) in Sudan, United Arab Emirates is applying a precautionary sanitary measure to prevent the risk of introducing Rift Valley fever virus through the imports of all kinds of live ruminants and their untreated products from Sudan. These measures include: 1. Temporary ban on the importation of all kinds of live ruminants and their untreated by-products, originating from Sudan; 2. Temporary ban on ruminant's meat and its untreated products from Red Sea State in Sudan, except heat-treated products derived from animals originated from Red Sea State in Sudan or have been slaughtered in a slaughterhouse located in the Red Sea State; 3. Consignments of ruminant's meat shipped from Red Sea State in Sudan before 17 October 2019 were permitted.

Following the Decree No. 322 of 2018 on the Regulation of the importation of plant hosts from countries that have recorded infections of the fall armyworm (Spodoptera Frugiperda: Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) which was notified and published by SPS notifications G/SPS/N/ARE/142/Add.1, G/SPS/N/ARE/142/Add.2 and G/SPS/N/ARE/166, United Arab Emirates is applying an emergency measures to prevent the risk of the entrance of the pest from Egypt, Indonesia, Japan and the Republic of Korea. Therefore, the competent authority in affected countries should apply the phytosanitary measures described in the mentioned Decree, and declare the measures in the phytosanitary certificate. Annex No. 4 of the list of countries, which have recorded infections of the fall armyworm (Spodoptera Frugiperda: Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), has been updated.

The Gulf Draft Technical Regulation for contaminants and toxins in food and feed, notified to the World Trade Organization (WTO) as G/SPS/N/ARE/177, G/SPS/BHR/200, G/SPS/N/KWT/51, G/SPS/N/OMN/97, G/SPS/N/QAT/101, G/SPS/SAU/395, and G/SPS/N/YEM/42 on 10 April 2019. This technical regulation has been reviewed and taken into consideration the comments of WTO members, specifically those related to the MLs of Arsenic and Aflatoxin.

The United Arab Emirates is lifting the ban on the importation of domestic and wild birds and their untreated by-product, day-old chicks, hatching eggs, poultry meat and table eggs from Kuwait, on 12 May 2019. This follows the publishing of the Final report (Follow-up report No. 1) of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in the State of Kuwait on 15 April 2019, and in compliance with Article 10.4.4, Chapter 10.4 of the OIE Terrestrial Animal Health Code.

This Draft Technical Regulation concerned with maximum levels of contaminants and toxicants in food and feed, includes maximum levels of contaminants and natural toxicants in feed in cases where the contaminant in feed can be transferred to food of animal origin and can be relevant for public health.

This draft technical regulation applies to maximum limits of pesticide residues in agricultural and food products, which covers different varieties of a maximum residue limits (MRLs) in agricultural and food products, such as fruits, vegetable, cereal, meat, date and processed cereal-based foods and baby foods for infants and young children.
