Hypothenemus hampei, the coffee berry borer, is a small beetle native to Africa. It is the most harmful insect pest of coffee worldwide. Spanish common names of the insect include barrenador del caf (coffee borer), gorgojo del caf (coffee weevil), and broca del caf (coffee drill).

Morphological Features
Adult female: body small, black, cylindrical, slightly curved posteriorly; newly emerged adults dark yellow, darkening to black. Body length approximately 2.5 mm. Head, antennae, eyes, mouthparts, legs present; pupal vestiges of wings, antennae, eyes, mouthparts, and legs appear during development. Larvae: white initially, later darken; pupae initially white, then antennae, wings, and mouthparts become darker and light brown.
