Leucoptera malifoliella, the pear leaf blister moth, ribbed apple leaf miner or apple leaf miner, is a moth of the Lyonetiidae family that can be found in all of Europe. This wingspan is about 8 millimetres (0.31 in). It Differs from Leucoptera lotella as follows: forewings broader, post-tornal spot pale violet-golden, strongly black-margined on both sides, apex of wing orange, penultimate bar in cilia horizontal. The larva is green whitish; head and plate of 2 blackish Adults are on wing from June to July. The larvae feed on Alnus incana, Amelanchier ovalis, Aronia, Betula pendula, Betula pubescens, Chaenomeles japonica, Cotoneaster integerrimus, Crataegus crus-galli, Crataegus monogyna, Cydonia oblonga, Malus baccata, Malus domestica, Malus floribunda, Malus sylvestris, Mespilus germanica, Prunus avium, Prunus cerasus, Prunus domestica, Prunus fruticosa, Prunus insititia, Prunus spinosa, Prunus subhirtella, Pyrus communis and Sorbus aucuparia. They mine the leaves of their host plant.

Morphological Features
Adult moth body length 1.9–2.10 mm (mean 2.02 ± 0.09 mm), wing span averaging 6.928 ± 0.117 mm. Body silvery-white with shiny metallic grey appearance. Head typical of Lyonetiidae. Antennae not described. Forewings lanceolate with fringed outer and posterior margins, silvery-white with characteristic dark blotches; apical area slightly orange tinged, containing two white dark-edged spots and a pale golden spot with black border. At rest, wing appears pointed and slightly upturned in lateral view. Hind wings narrow, lance-shaped, grey and fringed, projecting beyond full length of wing. Legs not described. Abdomen not described. Larva (four instars): length 1.50–2.4 mm (mean 1.908 ± 0.29 mm); freshly emerged translucent greenish white, turning darker near pupation; thoracic and abdominal segments prominently rounded, giving a moniliform shape. Pupa: length 1.5–1.79 mm (mean 1.67 ± 0.11 mm), breadth 0.49–0.50 mm (mean 0.50 ± 0.01 mm); dark brown to black, contained within spindle-shaped, flattened silken cocoon.
