Morphological Features
Adults are about 2.5 mm long, usually reddish-brown to black with a large dark spot on each elytron; however, colour is variable and spots may be absent. The head and thorax are mostly black, with a slender, curved snout about half as long as the body. Eggs are glassy-white, about 0.5 mm, laid among anthers in the bud. Larvae are glassy-white, becoming greyish in later stages; three instars with head capsule widths of 0.266 mm (L1), 0.375 mm (L2), and 0.510 mm (L3). Pupae are yellowish-white, about 2–3 mm × 1–2 mm, formed in the remains of the bud.
