Zeugodacus cucurbitae

Adult is a medium-sized species (8–10 mm long, 14–16.9 mm wingspan), predominantly orange-brown, with face bearing moderate dark round spots in each antennal furrow. Scutum red-brown with medial and lateral yellow postsutural vittae; postpronotal lobes and notopleura yellow; scutellum entirely yellow. Wing with a broad fuscous costal band expanding into a large spot at apex, dark fuscous along dm-cu crossvein, pale infuscation along r-m crossvein, cells bc and c colourless, microtrichia in outer corner of cell c only. Abdomen with terga III–V orange-brown, with a narrow transverse black band across anterior margin of tergum III and a narrow medial longitudinal black band over terga III–V forming a T-shaped pattern. Male with posterior lobe of surstylus long and pointed, 10–12 times longer than anterior lobe; female aculeus needle-shaped, 1.3–1.7 mm long. Eggs measure 0.78 ± 0.05 × 0.21 ± 0.02 mm. Third-instar larvae: body cylindrical, 3 thoracic and 8 abdominal segments, with cephalopharyngeal skeleton partially visible by transparency; anterior spiracles lateral on first thoracic segment; posterior spiracles with 3 spiracular openings arranged parallel.
