Burkina Faso

The notified Regulation aims to establish the general principles and organizational provisions and procedures for ensuring the health safety of plants, animals and foods at both community and national level. It establishes health safety cooperation mechanisms and entities within the Union, and applies at all stages of the production, processing and distribution of marketed plants, animals and foods. Its main objectives are: - to regulate health protection for plants, plant products and other regulated items, including the products derived from modern biotechnology defined therein; - to regulate the health protection of animals, animal products, products of animal origin and animal feed, including products derived from modern biotechnology, and to ensure veterinary public health; - to ensure the health protection of food products, including products derived from modern biotechnology.

Joint Order No. 108/MASA/MEF establishes the list of plants, plant products, products of plant origin, and other regulated items subject to phytosanitary and quality control. The list has been updated and takes into account Burkina Faso's institutional and regulatory reforms.

These specifications set out a monitoring and control strategy that aims to ensure the best conditions and provisions for the export of sesame of high sanitary quality originating in Burkina Faso. This approach will enable us to provide quality products that meet the standards required for human consumption and will improve sales of our local products on regional and international markets. The specifications concern and apply to all stakeholders in Burkina Faso's sesame export sector, regardless of whether the sesame is exported for commercial or other purposes. They must therefore be rigorously applied by sesame collection, purchasing, packaging, transport and export stakeholders, as well as by all other partners involved in control and test activities. Stakeholders in Burkina Faso's sesame export sector, and sesame export-related activities, are governed by these specifications. The specifications establish the rights and obligations of categories of stakeholders in the sesame sector, as well as the rules, practices and control measures applicable to them under the laws in force.

Joint Order No. 203/MARHASA/MICA/MS/MEF establishes the quality control requirements for sesame for export originating in Burkina Faso. All sesame exporters must comply with the Burkina Faso sesame export specifications and phytosanitary and quality control procedure manuals prepared for this purpose, and the obligations set forth in this Order. Analysis is mandatory and systematic for each batch of sesame to be exported, regardless of the region or country of destination. The technical services responsible for quality control must ensure the effectiveness and authenticity of laboratory analysis results before issuing the inspection note certifying that the quality of the batch is in line with third-party requirements.
