Cryptoblabes gnidiella, the honeydew moth or Christmasberry moth, is a moth of the family Pyralidae. It is natively found around the Mediterranean Sea but occurs also in Africa (South Africa, R union, Madagascar, Ghana), the Oriental & Australasian region (Australia, Hawaii, New Guinea) and is an introduced species in South America and Middle America. The wingspan is 11 C20 mm. The caterpillars feed on oranges and other types of citrus fruit, apple and maize. The adults feed on honeydew, and their particular association with the Christmasberry (Brazilian pepper, Schinus terebinthifolius) seems to be mainly for that reason. This species has been reported from several dozen host plants, including many cultivated plants, especially fruits (e.g. grapes, lemons, and pomegranates). It is considered a serious pest.

Morphological Features
Adult: wingspan 11–20 mm; forewings light gray, finely speckled with black, with distinct transverse lines, the first whitish, almost straight, the second purplish-gray, forming a strong angle posteriorly; pattern highly variable, sometimes brownish with faint pattern or with whitish cross-lines and reddish or purple scales; hindwings greyish without discernible pattern. Thorax and abdomen gray dorsally, light gray ventrally; abdomen bright grayish-white. Antennae simple, finely ciliated. Larva (final instar): length 10–12 mm; body yellow to light brown with dark brown longitudinal stripes and small black rounded spots at base of bristles on thorax and abdomen; head reddish-brown.
