The proposed amendments mainly focus on the following: Adding methods of airborne disinfection of surfaces in determination of bactericidal, virucidal, fungicidal activity and management of veterinary disinfectants for the test.
This proposal seeks to: a. Prohibit MFDS issued certificate rental behaviour of testing laboratories; b. Establish a legal basis for appointing laboratory supervisors who have knowledge and experienced in related area.
Import health requirements such as quarantine requirements and sanitary conditions of the exporting country with regards to cloven-hoofed animals for display in a zoo that are exported from a foreign country into the Republic of Korea.
The proposed Act seeks to: - Improve predictability and feasibility for industries and consumers to access relevant provisions by consolidating all provisions relating to labelling and advertising prescribed in three acts, which are Food Sanitation Act, Livestock Products sanitary Control Act, Functional Health Foods Act, and their related notifications; - Satisfy consumers demand to know, and facilitate fair trade by clarifying provisions to prevent false or exaggerated labelling or advertising; and - Repeal the current provisions on Deliberation on Labels and Advertisements regarding infant foods, specially designed foods for weight control and health foods.
The regulation for the labelling of livestock products has been revised in order to simplify the labelling method and to prevent any confusion among operators. The following indicates the proposed amendments: 1. Introduction of mandatory labelling of meat content in meat processing products (ham, sausage, etc.); 2. Clarification of the labelling method for frozen products and refrigerated products: - Introduction of mandatory labelling of frozen products or refrigerated products on the principal display panel; 3. Introduction of exceptional clauses for the labelling requirement: - When a product is directly supplied to a chain store (not to the final consumer) with the labelling information provided through the point of sale system, the information for labelling can be omitted; 4. Adjustment of standards in order to be harmonized with the Labelling Standards for foods: - Clarification of display panel as principal display panel and information display panel by defining their terms; - Requirement for a font size of 10 or greater to be used when displaying labelling information; - Permitted use of weight or volume units regardless of solid or liquid contents; - For the labelling of imported livestock, it is permitted to use labelling according to Korean orthography principles of foreign languages.
The Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency (QIA) has added the prohibited areas and prohibited host of Xylella fastidiosa listed in the annex 1, based on the results of Pest Risk Analysis (PRA). Products covered: Plants for planting (excluding seeds) of the host of Xylella fastidiosa. The prohibited areas has been added as below (the underlined countries are new additions): America: Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Honduras, Mexico, Paraguay, United States of America, Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela; Asia: India, Iran, Chinese Taipei, Turkey; Europe: France, Italy. In the event that vectors of X. fastidiosa (listed in the annex 2) are detected in hosts (excluding plants for planting) of X. fastidiosa, produced in import prohibited areas, they will be treated as regulated pests.
The proposed amendments seek to revise the processing standards for Natural cheese to allow natural cheese made from unpasteurized milk if the cheese undergoes maturing process for more than sixty days at 2 celsius and more.
The proposed amendments seek to: - Prescribe general sanitary requirements to comply with Korean standards of processing, law materials, hazard control, labelling for export livestock products to the Republic of Korea; - Specify mandatory information stated in sanitary or health certificates for livestock products; - Prescribe responsibilities of exporting country including reporting safety accidents of livestock products and supervising foreign establishments; and - Provide the list of eligible livestock products to export to the Republic of Korea.
