Imports of such products must be presented with certificates from the originating country, such as health certificate or disease-free certificate, and an import license from the CITES organization of originating country

It requires an import permit, such as a CITES MA certificate, granted by the management authority of the exporting country before the trade occurs to ensure that specimens of wild animals and plants do not threaten the survival of the species included in Appendices I, II, and III under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).

Pursuant to Notification 0945/MAF, dated 05 September 2018, there is an outbreak of ASF in Liaoning province, China. World Organisation for Animal and Health (OIE) reported that ASF is a highly contagious hemorrhagic disease of pigs, the organism which causes ASF is a DNA virus of the Asfarviridae family with high virulence forms of the virus, ASF is characterized by high fever, loss of appetite, haemorrhages in the skin and internal organs, and death in 2-10 days on average. Mortality rates may be as high as 100%.Therefore, the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry notified as follow:- Department of Livestock and Fisheries shall coordinate with border checkpoints in order to notify authorities, entrepreneurs, and people for the implementation of this notification.- The provinces bordering with China, for instance, Luang Namtha, Oudomxay and Phongsaly shall stop temporary importing all kind of pork products from China for its domestic consumption.- Provincial Agriculture and Forestry Office shall coordinate with concerned sectors in order to plan the need for domestic pig production aims at reducing imports. In case, inspectors at the border checkpoint found pork products from China, the products will be restrained in accordance with laws and regulations.

The decision defines the principles, rules, procedures and measures for food and food additives to Lao PDR in order to ensure the quality standard, food safety and to protect public health for consumers.The main contents of the announcement are as follows:Import of Food: All food businesses are required to provide relevant documents by submitting them to the Food and Drug Department or Food and Drug Authority in any province at least five working days prior to the actual importation; Transit of Food: Food businesses that transport food in transit through Lao PDR shall provide all required documents and submit them to the Food and Drug Department or Food and Drug Authority in any province at least five working days before transit.
