The Ministerial Decree No. 1111 /2016 (1 page in Arabic) that gives producers and importers six months transitional period to abide by the Egyptian Standard ES No. 8041/2016 "Edible fats and oils not covered by individual standards" (10 pages in Arabic) which was previously notified in G/SPS/N/EGY/64 dated 13 August 2015, has come into force on 29 November 2016.

- The Egyptian Food Safety Authority shall solely undertake the functions of control and handling of food to prevent health hazards arising from human consumption of food, through formulating necessary regulations and taking any measures to protect human health; - The Egyptian Food Safety Authority shall be responsible for but not limited to: Setting mandatory food safety criteria in accordance with the international standards; Inspection, control, licensing, handling of food; Control of imported and local food to prevent any fraudulent activity; Setting conditions and rules regarding the granting of certificates of validity necessary for the export of locally-produced food and overseeing the certification process; Setting the necessary measures and procedures for emergencies that threaten imported or locally produced food, through rapid alert and recall systems; Setting the necessary procedures for risk assessment, analysis, management, communication; Developing mandatory systems that ensure food safety; Developing a system for food traceability; Setting the necessary plans for identifying existing unlicensed food production units; Raising community awareness; Cooperating and coordinating with national and international organizations concerned with the safety of food and human health; - Functions of the Egyptian Food Safety Authority shall not include the stages of primary production; - The current relevant food safety decrees and regulations shall continue to be enforced pending the issuance of the executive regulations and decrees necessary for the enforcement of the Egyptian National Food Safety Authority.

Ministerial Decree No. 256/2016 gives producers and importers a six-month transitional period to comply with Egyptian standard ES No. 49 2/2016 "Olive Oils and Olive Pomace Oils". This decree mandates that producers and importers must comply with the requirements prescribed in the Egyptian standard ES 49-2/2016 "Olive Oils and Olive Pomace Oils" which complies with CODEX STAN 33-1981, adopted in 1981 - Revision: 1989, 2003, Amendment: 2009, 2013, 2015 for Olive Oils And Olive Pomace Oils. Egyptian standard ES No. 49-2/2016 supersedes ES No. 49-2/2005 that has already been mandated since 2005 by the Ministerial Decree No. 515/2005.

The Ministerial Decree repeals (139) Egyptian standards concerning the maximum residue limits of pesticides. It mandates the use of the Maximum Residue Limits listed in the Codex database "Codex Pesticides Residues in Food" issued by Codex Alimentarius Commission. In case the Codex database does not include a certain value of Pesticides Residues or a certain agriculture product, the values listed in the EU pesticides database issued by the European Commission shall be used. If the European Commission has no adopted values, the tolerance values determined by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) shall apply. In case of the absence of the allowed maximum pesticide residue limit values for any agricultural crop or product, the maximum pesticide limit values of the nearest group of agricultural crops or products shall be used in the same sequence mentioned above.

This addendum concerns the notification of adoption, publication, and entry into force of Ministerial Decree No. 256/2016 that gives producers and importers a six-month transitional period to comply with Egyptian Standard ES 1765/2016 "Non-Alcoholic Barley Drink" that has already been mandated by the Ministerial Decree No. 130/2005. This said Decree complies with the last version of ES No. 1765/2006 "Non-Alcoholic Malt Drink" and GSO 1016/2000 "Microbiological criteria for foodstuffs", previously notified in G/SPS/N/EGY/68 dated 14 August 2015.

This addendum concerns the notification of adoption, publication, and entry into force of Ministerial Decree No. 256/2016 that gives producers and importers a six-month transitional period to comply with Egyptian standard ES 804/2016 "Canned Tuna and Bonito", previously notified in notification G/SPS/N/EGY/60 dated 3 March 2015 and addendum G/SPS/N/EGY/60/Add.1 dated 13 May 2015. Egyptian standard ES 804/2016 "Canned Tuna and Bonito" supersedes ES No. 804/2005 "Canned Tuna and Bonito" that has already been mandated since 2005 by the Ministerial Decree No. 515/2005.

The Ministerial Decree No. 256/2016 gives producers and importers a six-month transitional period to comply with Egyptian standard ES 1725/2016 "Salted fish" which supersedes ES No. 1725/2005 that has already been mandated by the Ministerial Decree No. 130/2005.
