It was decided to amend the Food (Colour Coding for Sugar Levels) Regulations 2016, dated 1 June 2016, notified as G/SPS/N/LKA/39 by Sri Lanka.The Food (Colour Coding for Sugar Levels – Liquid) Regulations 2022, published in Gazette Extraordinary No. 2319/42 of 14 February 2023, will come into force on 1 July 2025.

It was decided to amend the Draft Food (Iodization of Salt) Regulations 2013, dated 18 February 2013, notified as G/SPS/N/LKA/34 by Sri Lanka.The Food (Iodization of Salt) Regulations 2023, published in Gazette Extraordinary No. 2332/03 of 15 May 2023 as amended by regulations published in Gazette Extraordinary No. 2364/27 of 27 December 2023, is hereby amended by the repeal of regulation 1 thereof, and the substitution thereof the following regulation.These regulations may be cited as Food (Iodization of Salt) Regulations, 2023 and will come into force on 1 July 2025.

It was decided to amend the Draft Food (Labelling and Advertising) Regulations 2015, dated 4 December 2015, notified as G/SPS/N/LKA/38 by Sri Lanka.2015 draft was further amended and later it was published as the Food (Labelling and Advertising) Regulations 2022.The Food (Labelling and Advertising) Regulations 2022, published in the Gazette Extraordinary No. 2319/40 of 14 February 2023 was supposed to enter into force on 1 January 2024. Subsequently date of enforcement postponed to 1 January 2025 by Gazette Extraordinary No. 2364/24 of 27 December 2023. It was further amended by the Gazette Extraordinary No. 2416/51 of 28 December 2024 as follows:Regulation 2 to Regulation 13(15) and Regulation 15 along with I to IX schedules will enter into force on 1 July 2025;Regulation 13(16), 13(17), 13(18) and 14 enter into force on 1 January 2025.

It was decided to amend the Draft Food (Trans fat) Regulations 2021, dated 29 April 2021, notified as G/SPS/N/LKA/45 by Sri Lanka.The Food (Trans-Fat) Regulations 2022, published in Gazette Extraordinary, No. 2319/41 of 14 February 2023 as amended by regulations published in Gazette Extraordinary, No. 2364/25 of 27 December 2023 is hereby amended.These regulations may be cited as Food (Trans-Fat) Regulations, 2022 and will come into force on 1 July 2025.

It is compulsory for importers to comply with the standards of the Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI) stipulated by the Import Controller's Regulation with regards to importing food commodities specified in Serial Nos. 1 to 48 of Column 111 of Schedule I(A) and Serial Nos. 128 to 131 of Column 111 of Schedule I(B).

These regulations are to regulate Trans-fat level in food items and to regulate use of Partially Hydrogenated Oils (PHO) for food processing.

These regulations set out several requirements for Fresh Fish, Chilled Fish, Frozen Fish, Canned Fish, Dried Fish, Maldive Fish, Smoked Fish, and Comminuted Fish Products and Fish (or prawn or shrimp) Paste, Fish Sauce.According to these regulations, Fish means cold blooded (ectothermic) aquatic vertebrates including crustacean, cephalopods, molluscs and other aquatic life that is edible to human beings, harvested from marine, brackish water or fresh water sources. Fish exclude amphibians and aquatic reptiles.These regulations prescribe the histamine level, formaldehyde level, heavy metal levels and microbiological limits for each type of fish and fish product.The limits for food additives permitted for Quick frozen whole fish, fish fillet, minced fish and fish sticks are mentioned in Schedule I, Regulation No. 20.The limits for food additives permitted for canned fish are mentioned in Schedule II, Regulation No. 23(xiv).The limits for food additives permitted for Comminuted fish are mentioned in Schedule III, Regulation No. 27(iii). The limits for food additives permitted for Fish sauce are mentioned in Schedule IV, Regulation No. 29(xi).

These regulations set out several requirements for meat and meat products such as Fresh meat, Lean meat, Chilled meat, Frozen meat, Minced meat or Ground meat, Ham, Bacon, Comminute meat Products, Frozen Formed Meat Products, Cured and Smoked meat, Canned meat.According to these regulations:all meat shall be sound and fit for human consumption and shall be obtained from healthy animals of permitted species.fresh meat shall be the edible part of the skeletal muscle of an animal or bird that is normally used for human consumption and that was healthy at the time of slaughter. It may contain accompanying and overlying fat together with portions of bone, sinew, nerve and blood vessels that normally accompany the muscle tissue and are not separated from it in the process of dressing. It may be accompanied by edible organs.These regulations prescribe:the storing conditions of certain types of meat products andheavy metal levels and microbiological limits for each type of meat and meat product.Meat products given in Part II to Part VII shall be packaged in accordance with the Food (Packaging Materials and Articles) Regulations 2010 published in Gazette Extraordinary No. 1660/30 of 29 June 2010 as amended from time to time or replaced.Meat products in Part II to Part VII shall be labelled according to the provisions of the Food (Labelling and Advertising) Regulations-2005 published in Gazette Extraordinary No. 1376/9 of 19 January 2005 as amended from time to time or replaced.Meat products given in Part II to Part VII may contain colouring substances in accordance with the Food (Colouring substances) Regulations 2005 published in Gazette Extraordinary No. 1412/19 of 23 November 2006 as amended from time to time or replaced.Meat products given in Part II to Part VI may contain antioxidants in accordance with the Food (Antioxidants) Regulations 2009 published in Gazette Extraordinary No. 1617/16 of 1 September 2009 as amended from time to time or replaced.Meat products given in Part II to Part VII may contain preservatives in accordance with the Food (Preservatives) Regulations 2018 published in Gazette Extraordinary No. 2113/16 of 5 March 2019 as amended from time to time or replaced.Meat products given in Part II to Part VII may contain natural flavouring substances in accordance with the Food (Flavouring Substances and Flavour enhancers) Regulations 2013 published in Gazette Extraordinary No. 1795/51 of 1 February 2013 as amended from time to time or replaced.According to the regulation no. 10(6); the food additives given in Schedule I may be permitted in ham within the limits specified.  According to the regulation no. 11(6); the food additives given in Schedule II may be permitted in Bacon within the limits specified.  According to the regulation no. 12(8); the food additives given in Schedule III may be permitted in Comminuted meat product within the limits specified.  According to the regulation no. 15(6); the food additives given in Schedule III may be permitted in Canned "X" meat product within the limits specified.

Sri Lanka hereby notifies that the final date for comments with regard to notification G/SPS/N/LKA/41 on "Proposed Food (Cereals, Pulses, Legumes and Derived Products) Regulations- 2020" has been extended to 8 January 2020.

Sri Lanka hereby notifies that the final date for comments with regard to notification G/SPS/N/LKA/42 on "Food (Mycotoxins) Regulations - 2020" has been extended to 8 January 2020.

These regulations prescribe that no person shall manufacture, process, import, transport, distribute, store, sell, offer or expose for sale any food containing the types of mycotoxins in amounts exceeding the levels prescribed in the Schedule I of these regulations.And hereby, these regulations repealed the Sections (c), (d) and (e) of the Regulation 24 in Part II (General Prohibition and Regulation of Sale) of the Food (Labeling and Miscellaneous) Regulations – 1993 published in Gazette No: 788/7 dated 14 October 1993. The Schedule I covers Maximum Levels of Mycotoxins in Foodstuffs (obtained from the Commission Regulations (EC) No 1887/2006).

These regulations set out several requirements for cereals, pulses and legumes (including split pulses) and their flours and derived products. - The provisions of these regulations shall apply to agricultural products of following species and their derived products:   - Species: Hordeum vulgare L. or H. distichon, Zea mays L., Eleusine coracana L. Gaertn., Oryza sativa L. (including several types), Sorghum bicolor L. Moench syn Sorghum vulgare pers., Triticum aestivum L., Triticum durum Desf., Vigna mungo L. Hepper syn. Phaseolus mungo Linn., Vigna sinensis (L.) Savi exd Hassk. syn. Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp., Vigna sesquipedalis Fruhw., Cicer arietinum Linn., Phaseolus aureus Roxy., syn. Phaseolus radiatus L., Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek., Lens culinaris Medik. syn. Lens esculenta Moench., Arachis hypogaea L., Glycine max L. Merr., Vigna mungo L. Hepper syn. Phaseolus mungo Linn., Cicer arietinum Linn., Vigna sinensis (L.) Savi exd Hassk syn. Vignaunguiculata (L.) Walp. Vigna sesquipedalis Frufw., Lensculinaris Medic. Syn Lens esculenta Moench, Phaseolus aureus Roxb, syn. Phaseolus radiator L., Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek., Cajanus cajan Mill sp., Pisum sativum, Maranta arundinacea or Curcuma augustifolia and any other grains available in Sri Lankan Market.   - Derived products: Flours, sago, custard powder, corn flakes, rice flakes, rolled oats, breads and other bakery products, wafers, extruded snacks, Papadam (crackers), pasta products, noodles, instant noodles, soy products, cakes and cookies, biscuits and processed cereal products, malted food products etc. - Those products shall be free from objectionable foreign odours and any added colouring substances, insect and fungal infestation, rodent hair and excreta. - It mentioned the limits for:   - pesticide residues, mycotoxins, Uric acid in any flour, Acid insoluble ash (siliceous matter) in flour, heavy metals (Leads, Arsenic, Cadmium), moisture, extraneous matters, crude fibre, acid insoluble ash, and damaged grains, fortificants, leavening agents, additives, pesticides and microbial content. - The requirements for labelling, packaging materials and articles, sweeteners, flavour substances, colouring substances, antioxidants, fat/shortening used in bakery products are prescribed under these regulations.

These standards apply for: - bottled or packaged natural mineral water; and - bottled or packaged drinking water. The regulations set out the following requirements for bottled or packaged natural mineral water and bottled or packaged drinking water: - no person shall:   obtain water from any source unless such source has been registered with the Chief Food Authority;   use any premises for bottle or package natural mineral water or drinking water unless such premises have been registered with the Chief Food Authority; and   import bottled or packaged natural mineral water or drinking water, without obtaining a Certificate of Registration on that behalf from the Chief Food Authority, >provided however that in the case of imported bottled or packaged natural mineral water or drinking water a health certificate shall be obtained from the Competent Authority in charge of food safety of the country of export. - no person shall expose for sale, sell, distribute, transport or advertise any bottled or packaged natural mineral water or drinking water unless such product: >  has been duly registered with the Chief Food Authority; and   complies with the provisions of these regulations.

It was decided to amend the Draft Food (Iodation of Salt) Regulation 2013 dated 18February 2013, notified as G/SPS/N/LKA/34 by Sri Lanka.The Regulation will enter into force on or after 24 July 2018.

The Draft Food (Milk and Milk Products) Regulations 2007, notified as G/SPS/N/LKA/10 by Sri Lanka, has been adopted on 28 December 2008 as Food (Milk and Milk Products) Regulation 2007. It was decided to amend the Food (Milk and Milk Products) Regulation 2007, which will enter into force on or after 20 June 2017.

The Draft Food (Milk and Milk Products) Regulations 2007, notified as G/SPS/N/LKA/10 by Sri Lanka, has been adopted on 28 December 2008 as Food (Milk and Milk Products) Regulation 2007. It was decided to amend the Food (Milk and Milk Products) Regulation 2007, which will enter into force on or after 19 May 2017.

These regulations on Food (Colour Coding for Sugar Levels) cover: No person can sell, offer for sale, distribute or advertise: a. Carbonated beverages, b. Ready to serve beverages other than milk based products, c. Fruit nectar, d. Fruit juices. Unless the container or the package is labelled with the following mandatory requirements: a. A numerical description of the sugar content, b. A description of the relative sugar level, c. A colour code displayed in schedule II, d. The diameter of the inner circle in logo specifies the colour relating to a particular sugar level should not be less than 1 cm.

It was decided to amend the Draft Food (Additives - General) Regulations 2010, dated 23 August 2010, notified as G/SPS/N/LKA/21 by Sri Lanka. Regulation will enter into force on 18 December 2016.

It was decided to amend the Draft Food (Preservatives) Regulations 2010, dated 19 August 2010, notified as G/SPS/N/LKA/20 by Sri Lanka. Regulation will enter into force on 18 December 2016.
