The South American palm weevil, Rhynchophorus palmarum, is a species of snout beetle. The adults are relatively large black beetles of approximately one and a half inch in length, and the larvae may grow to two inches in length.

Morphological Features
Mature larva: maximum dimensions 51.2 × 23.8 mm, head width 11.5 mm. Frons with two pairs of well-developed frontal setae (fs3 and fs5). Clypeus with three well-developed setae (fs3, fs4, fs5). Epipharynx with mesal area between labral rods having an elongate glabrous area coarsely defined by surrounding asperities; median epipharyngeal setae 2 (mes2) slender, about as widely separated as mes1, the latter weak and inconspicuous. Number of dms about 30 (fewer in earlier instars). Pronotum densely setose on both anterior and lateral margins.
