Strategus aloeus

Body length variable; South American populations usually larger and darker, North and Central American populations smaller and lighter. Head: frons densely punctate to rugose, with two low to moderate conical tubercles. Clypeus punctate and rugose, apex subtruncate, broadly emarginate, reflexed, usually with small notch at center. Antenna with 10 segments, club subequal in length to segments 2–7. Pronotum: anterior half rugose, sides punctate to rugose; posterior half punctate, punctures small; anterior horn moderate in length, stout, curving forward and upward, apex subtruncate to emarginate; base with wide to very wide rugose band, band reduced at middle almost to basal bead. Elytra: sides with small to moderate punctures, surface wrinkled to smooth behind humerus. Apex of posterior tibia with 3 teeth, median tooth smaller. Venter: prosternal process long, apex rounded, densely setose. Male parameres oval, stout, base broad, strongly contracted toward apex; in lateral view, basal half convex, apical half concave. Females distinguished by pronotal fovea densely dotted, protibia with 4 quadridentate projections, metatibia with 3 teeth.
