The Senegalese grasshopper (Oedaleus senegalensis) is a medium-sized grasshopper species found in the Sahel region of Africa, the Canary Islands, Cape Verde Islands, and West Asia. Although not called a locust in English, this species shows gregarious behaviour and some morphological change (phase polymorphism) on crowding. In many parts of the Sahel, this species may cause greater year-on-year crop damage than better-known locusts, attacking crops such as the pearl millet.

Morphological Features
Body length: male 20.45 mm, female 25.8 mm. Tegmina length: male 15.7 mm, female 19.6 mm. Hind femur length: male 10.2 mm, female 13.2 mm. Pronotum length: male 3.4 mm, female 4.25 mm. Pronotum tectiform, slightly saddle-shaped, broadly rounded posteriorly, with light markings forming an open X. The white lines on the pronotum are slender; the principal sulcus is placed at or behind the middle. Hind wing with basal half yellowish, tip hyaline, and a narrow black fascia forming a nearly complete band that does not reach the posterior margin.
