Ceroplastes japonicus

Adult male. Total length including waxy projections 1758–2012 μm, width about 1.6 mm. Body and appendages covered with numerous setae, mostly fleshy setae. Head: length from apex to pronotal ridge 137–204 μm, width across genae 179–241 μm; genae sclerotised with polygonal reticulations; dorsal eyes near head apex, each 24–33 μm wide; ventral eyes on posterior ventral area, each 22–37 μm wide. Antennae ten-segmented, filiform, with short stout fleshy setae; antennal length ratio to body length 1:0.38–0.41. Legs long and slender, prothoracic leg shortest, metathoracic leg longest; ratio of hind leg to total body length 1:2–2.2; claw short, slightly curved, denticle small or absent. Wings: ratio of total body length to wing length 1:0.78–0.88. Abdomen: segments I–VII with tergites I–IV unsclerotised, V–VII slightly sclerotised; glandular pouches and associated setae absent. Penial sheath with fleshy setae on margins of basal part; ratio of total body length to penial sheath length about 1:4.
