Pine Wilt Nematode, Pine Wood Nematode, pine wood nematode

Bursaphelenchus xylophilus, commonly known as pine wood nematode or pine wilt nematode (PWN), is a species of nematode that infects trees in the Pinus genus of coniferous trees and causes the disease pine wilt. Morphological Features

The head is offset with six labial lobes and a smaller circle of six inner lobes surrounding the stoma. A single labial sensillum is present on each of the two subventral and two subdorsal lobes, while the two opposite lobes without sensilla bear a pore-like amphid. The female vulva flap is a pouch. In males, in addition to two pairs of copulatory papillae, three additional papillae are observed: an additional post-anal pair and a single papilla anterior to the cloaca. Spicules are fused ventrally, with distal ends terminating in two fused half discs. Caudal alae are angular at the tail terminus but curved inward at the corners to appear oval. Lateral fields have four lateral striations
