Peregrinus maidis
TaxID: 222432
Basic Information
Peregrinus maidis
Corn Leafhopper, Corn leafhopper, corn hopper
Peregrinus maidis, commonly known as the corn planthopper or shoot bug, is a species of insect in the order Hemiptera and the family Delphacidae. It is widespread throughout most tropical and subtropical regions on earth, including southern North America, South America, Africa, Australia, Southeast Asia and China. P. maidis are a commercially important pest of maize and its relatives. In addition to physical plant damage, P. maidis is the vector for several species-specific maize viruses, including maize stripe virus, maize mosaic virus and the non-pathogenic Peregrinus maidis reovirus.

PRJNA896602 SRX18176070 SRP406388 insect RNA-Seq of Peregrinus maidis: short-winged females Total RNA was isolated from a range of P. maidis life stages: early-stage embryos (n = 180), mid- and late-stage embryos (n = 80 each), first- second- and third-stage nymphs (n = 20 each), fourth- and fifth-stage nymphs (n = 20 each), as well as short-winged adult males (n = 20), short-winged adult females (n = 20), long-winged adult males (n = 20), and long-winged adult females (n = 20) using the Qiagen RNeasy mini kit (Qiagen, Hilden, Germany) and treated with DNase I (Qiagen, Hilden, Germany) according to the manufacturers instructions. The quality of each total RNA sample was assessed using an Agilent Bioanalyzer (Agilent Technologies, Santa Clara, CA). Then, samples were submitted to the Genomic Sciences Laboratory (North Carolina State University, NC) for poly-A selection, fragmentation (~650 bp), and Illumina TruSeq library preparation. The resulting eight libraries were 300 bp paired-end sequenced on an Illumina MiSeq sequencer (Illumina, San Diego, CA). {'age': 'short-winged females', 'tissue': 'whole body', 'geo_loc_name': 'USA: North Carolina', 'biosamplemodel': 'Invertebrate', 'collection_date': '2018', 'isolation_source': 'PVVI Lab'} |
