Cerataphis brasiliensis

Apterous viviparous female: body color variable, from reddish brown to black, with a fringe of white wax around the body when alive. Body circular, slightly convex, with a pronounced mid-dorsal ridge. Head and prothorax fused; mesothorax and metathorax not very visible and dorsally flat. Eyes simple. Antennae with 5 segments (rarely 4); rhinaria present on the last segment. Ventral side of head with setae variable: proximal setae simple, median setae dagger-shaped or arrow-shaped, distal setae always simple. Cephalic horns present. Wax glands arranged in plates on body margin and center of abdomen; also on head (except horns), thorax, and abdominal segments I–III. Siphunculi lateral, on body margin, forming two circular pores, half on dorsal side and half on ventral side, surrounded by setae. Subanal plate bilobed with 5–9 setae; subgenital plate with 16–25 setae. Supraanal plate with 5–9 setae.
