Issue of amended Ministry for Primary Industries Standard 152.02 Importation and Clearance of Fresh Fruit and Vegetables into New Zealand and IHS Commodity Sub-class: Fresh Fruit/Vegetables Watermelon from Australia

In 2019, the New Zealand Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) notified WTO members of a consultation on proposed amendments to the phytosanitary measures for the management of Cucumber green mottle mosaic virus (CGMMV) on fresh pumpkin (Cucurbita pepo) and watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) fruit from Australia.For each commodity, MPI proposed to:
retain the existing phytosanitary measure for CGMMV (i.e. pest free area) which had been introduced as an emergency measure in 2018; and, include a new phytosanitary measure (i.e. pest free place of production) for the management of CGMMV. MPI addressed all concerns and queries raised during the consultation and the notified proposal was adopted in the two relevant IHSs on 19 November 2020.
