The present Draft General Regulation for the Hygiene and Sanitary Controls of Aquatic Food Products is being reviewed with the aim of adapting to the new Fisheries Law in force. It permits the Fish Inspection to carry out proper and fully its mission and skills, including the need for collaboration with other government institutions and harmonization with international legislation. This Regulation applies for all fishery products, derivatives and by-products, aquatic food and feed for aquatic organisms of aquaculture which are intended for human consumption, produced from fishery products caught in the national territory, in third countries or in international waters, within the country or using the country as transit, in order to ensure the food safety.The fishery products, their derivatives and by-products, aquatic food products, and feed for aquatic organisms of aquaculture which are intended for human consumption to be imported must meet sanitary requirements and hygiene of this Regulation and other applicable legal provisions.The Draft Regulation is being circulated for comments before finalization.

Mozambique has reported the outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in the following provinces: Nampula (Mogovolas and Angoche districts), Tete (Angonia, Moatize, Changara, Tete City, Tsangano and Marara districts), Gaza (Limpopo, Bilene, Chonguoene, Mandlakaze, Chokwe, Chibuto and Xai -xai dsictrs), Maputo (Manhica and Matutuine districts).As immediate imposed the following measures: Movement control inside the country, surveillance within containment and/or protection zone, screening, vaccination in outbreak response.

Following the immediate notification of highly pathogenic avian influenza by the Democratic Republic of the Congo (25 May 2017), Zimbabwe (2 June 2017) and South Africa (22 June 2017) to the OIE, Mozambique is applying a precautionary sanitary measure to prevent the risk of introducing the disease and dangerous animal products and animal by-products imported from these countries. These measures include: A temporary ban on the importation of domestic and wild birds, poultry and poultry products, day-old chicks, table and fertile eggs originating from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zimbabwe, and focus and surveillance zones in South Africa; and Importation of fertile and table eggs, poultry and poultry products, day-old chicks from avian infuenza-free compartments, approved after 22 June 2017, which are from areas outside the focus and surveillance zones of South Africa.

Following the notification G/SPS/N/MOZ/3 published by Mozambique imposing a temporary ban on the importation of all meat, meat products, meat-derived products, untreated meat products including heat-treated products originating from Brazil, this temporary ban has been modified. Based on the investigative work carried out by the Brazilian Veterinary Authority and the results of the samples collected by the Mozambican Veterinary Authority, this ban is hereby amended as follows:- All meat, meat products, meat-derived products, untreated meat products including heat-treated products originating from Brazil can be imported into Mozambique with the exception of those originating from Brazilian establishments SIF 825, SIF 2155, SIF 2021, SIF 3459, SIF 3796, SIF 4460. Following the circulation of the document G/SPS/GEN/1545 from Brazil on 22 March 2017 regarding the ongoing investigation under taken by Brazilian Veterinary Authority of the failure in the zoo sanitary inspection and certification of poultry meat, Mozambique is applying a precautionary sanitary measure to prevent the risk of introducing dangerous animal products, by-products imported from Brazil. These measures include: - Temporary ban on the importation of all meat, meat products, meat derived products, untreated meat products including heat-treated products originating from Brazil; and - Consignments of poultry meat shipped from Brazil before 1 September 2016 were permitted.
