Notifications for Guatemala (20 notifications)

With a view to safeguarding Guatemala's sanitary status, imports of live animals, products and by-products of animal origin and genetic material of animal species susceptible to African swine fever from the countries listed in section 4 shall be suspended temporarily until those countries regain their African swine fever-free status as recognized by the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH).

Technical Standard No. 82, version 01-2025, seeks to establish requirements for demonstrating the bioequivalence and therapeutic equivalence of multi-origin medicines in order to guarantee their safety, quality and efficacy. It applies to multi-origin medicines manufactured in Guatemala and those imported by natural or legal persons that must demonstrate therapeutic equivalence, for the purpose of applying for and maintaining sanitary registration with the Department for the Regulation and Control of Pharmaceutical and Related Products.

The notified Central American Technical Regulation (RTCA) establishes the technical specifications to be met by yoghurt, as defined in Article 4.1 thereof. The Regulation provides elements for the classification and composition of yoghurt.

The notified Central American Technical Regulation establishes the specifications to be met by butter, as defined in Article 4 thereof. It applies to butter for direct human consumption or further processing in the territory of the States Parties.

The notified draft Regulations establish the specifications, requirements and characteristics for butter, processed cheese, mozzarella cheese, evaporated milk and condensed milk.

The notified Regulation seeks to regulate supervision and establish technical, administrative and legal mechanisms and the necessary sanitary measures for the progressive control and eradication of tuberculosis, and for the declaration of herds, areas and countries as free of this disease, in accordance with the recommendations issued by the World Organisation for Animal Health.

The notified Manual specifies and describes the essential care to be provided to canines and felines. The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food has contributed to adoption of the Manual for the welfare of dogs and cats, and to the procedure for its implementation, in compliance with the Law on Animal Protection and Welfare. The Animal Welfare Unit is responsible for, inter alia, the creation and implementation of specific manuals that provide the basic information needed to ensure the welfare of animals, and specific details related to animal food, care and housing.

The notified Regulation seeks to regulate supervision and establish technical, administrative and legal mechanisms and the necessary sanitary measures for the progressive control and eradication of Brucellosis, and for the declaration of herds, flocks, areas and countries as free of this disease, in accordance with the recommendations issued by the World Organisation for Animal Health.

The notified National Equine Health Programme seeks to ensure the prevention, diagnosis, control, epidemiological surveillance and eradication of diseases of zoonotic, sanitary and economic importance that affect equine animals, and of diseases of national and international relevance and emerging and re-emerging diseases, through the gradual implementation of strategies and sanitary procedures area by area.

On 5 January 2009, the Government of the Republic of Guatemala notified, in document G/SPS/N/GTM/45, the draft regulation "RTCA No. 65.05.51.08: Veterinary drugs and related products. Sanitary registration and control requirements", whose purpose was to establish provisions governing the sanitary registration and control of veterinary drugs, related products and establishments. The regulation applies to veterinary drugs and related products and to establishments engaged in the registration, manufacture, marketing, dispensing or distribution, fractioning or storage thereof in the States Parties. The sanitary registration of raw materials for the preparation of veterinary drugs and related products and compounded veterinary formulations is excluded from the scope of the regulation and remains subject to the domestic laws of each State Party. The purpose of the present addendum is to notify WTO Members that the regulation has been updated. They will have 60 days from the date of this notification to make comments.

On 14 February 2018, the Government of the Republic of Guatemala notified, in document G/SPS/N/GTM/66, the draft regulation "RTCA No. 67.04.75:17: Dairy products. Matured cheese. Specifications", whose purpose was to establish the specifications to be met by matured cheese, as defined in the regulation. The purpose of the present addendum is to notify WTO Members, in the interests of transparency, that the regulation has been updated and amended following comments received during public consultation and has been approved under Resolution No. 406-2018 (COMIECO-LXXXV) of 7 December 2018.

On 4 February 2011, the Government of the Republic of Guatemala notified draft Central American Technical Regulation (RTCA) No. 67.04.54:10: Foods and beverages. Food additives, in document G/SPS/N/GTM/50, with the aim of establishing the food additives for food that is marketed in the territory of the States Parties, excluding processing aids or substances normally used as ingredients. The purpose of the present Addendum is to notify WTO Members that this Technical Regulation has been revised and that there will be a comment period of 60 days as from the date of this notification.

The notified text establishes the specifications to be met by milk powder and cream powder.

The purpose of this Technical Regulation is to help regulate trade in and the safe use of living modified organisms for agricultural use between the States parties. It applies to the transportation, cross-border movement, handling, development, production and marketing of, and research and experiments involving, living modified organisms for agricultural use.

The notified Technical Regulation establishes the specifications to be met by matured cheese, as defined in Section 4 (Definitions) thereof.

Criterios microbiológicos para la inocuidad de los alimentos, con el objeto de establecer los parámetros microbiológicos y sus límites de aceptación para el registro y la vigilancia sanitaria de los alimentos. The notified Regulation establishes the provisions and procedures governing the production, registration, certification, processing, labelling, storage, transport and marketing of organic agricultural products. It applies to the following products that carry or should carry a descriptive label relating to organic production methods.A product is considered to carry information concerning organic production methods when the label or property claims, including advertising material and commercial documents, describe the product or its ingredients using the terms "organic", "biological", "ecological" or other similar internationally recognised vocabulary, including abbreviated forms, which suggest to the buyer that the product or its ingredients have been obtained via organic production methods in the country in which they have been put on the market.The Regulation must be applied by all natural or legal persons engaged in the production, processing, labelling, storage, transport and marketing of certified organic agricultural products. It is also binding upon the public and private bodies engaged in the registration, control and/or certification of such production.

The notified text amends Article 28 of Government Decision No. 298-2015 of 29 December 2015, Regulation on the fortification of nixtamalized maize (corn) flour with micronutrients, published in the Diario de Centro América (Official Journal) on 12 January 2016.The Regulation will be applied by the Food Regulation and Control Department of the Directorate-General of Health Regulation, Surveillance and Control at the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare, in accordance with Government Decision No. 969-99 (Food Safety Regulations).

The notified Regulation establishes the characteristics, requirements and specifications to be met by nixtamalized maize (corn) flour fortified with micronutrients, for direct human consumption and used in the food industry, whether domestically produced, imported or donated.The Regulation will be applied by the Food Regulation and Control Department of the Directorate-General of Health Regulation, Surveillance and Control at the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare, in accordance with Government Decision No. 969-99 (Food Safety Regulations).
