The US Environmental Protection Agency is finalizing tolerance actions it previously proposed on its own initiative under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act for residues of sulfentrazone in or on corn, pop, grain and corn, pop, stover.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA or we) is confirming the effective date of 19 February 2025, for the final order that appeared in the Federal Register of 17 January 2025. The final order amends the color additive regulations to provide for the safe use of myoglobin as a color additive in ground meat and ground poultry analogue products. The effective date of 19 February 2025, for the final order published in the Federal Register of 17 January 2025 (90 FR 5590) is confirmed.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA or we) is amending the color additive regulations to provide for the safe use of calcium phosphate as a color additive in ready-to-eat chicken products, white candy melts, doughnut sugar, and sugar for coated candies. This action is in response to a color additive petition (CAP) filed by Innophos, Inc. (Innophos or petitioner).This order is effective 26 June 2025.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA or we) is amending the color additive regulations to provide for the safe use of galdieria extract blue, derived from unicellular red algae (Galdieria sulphuraria), in various food categories at levels consistent with good manufacturing practice (GMP). We are taking this action in response to a color additive petition (CAP) submitted by Fermentalg (Fermentalg or petitioner).This order is effective 26 June 2025.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA or we) is amending the color additive regulations to provide for the expanded safe use of butterfly pea flower extract as a color additive in ready-to-eat cereals, crackers, snack mixes, hard pretzels, plain potato chips (restructured or baked), and plain corn chips, tortilla chips, and multigrain chips at levels consistent with good manufacturing practice (GMP). We are advising the public of our decision to authorize the importation of fresh rhizomes of wasabi, Eutrema japonicum (Miq.) Koidz. (Brassicaceae), into the United States for consumption from Indonesia. Based on the findings of a pest risk analysis, which we made available to the public for review and comment through a previous notice, we have determined that the application of one or more designated phytosanitary measures will be sufficient to mitigate the risks of introducing or disseminating plant pests or noxious weeds via the importation of fresh rhizomes of wasabi from Indonesia. The United States Department of Agriculture, Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is withdrawing the proposed rule and proposed determination titled “Salmonella Framework for Raw Poultry Products”.

We are advising the public that we have prepared a pest risk analysis that evaluates the risks associated with the importation of fresh leaves and stems of glasswort (Salicornia europaea L.) for consumption from Israel into the United States. Based on the analysis, we have determined that the application of one or more designated phytosanitary measures will be sufficient to mitigate the risks of introducing or disseminating plant pests or noxious weeds via the importation of fresh leaves and stems of glasswort from Israel into the United States. FSIS is announcing that it is delaying the date it will begin sampling not ready-to-eat (NRTE) breaded stuffed chicken products for Salmonella and delaying the date establishments need to reassess their Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) plans for these products from 1 May 2025 to 3 November 2025. This additional time is necessary for FSIS to finalize its instructions to inspectors and prepare its inspection program personnel (IPP) and laboratories for the new sampling and testing. In addition, this additional time is necessary for FSIS to provide industry with guidance on holding and controlling products pending FSIS' sampling results.
