Acheta domesticus, commonly called the house cricket, is a species of cricket most likely native to Southwestern Asia, but between 1950 and 2000 it became the standard feeder insect for the pet and research industries and spread worldwide. They can be kept as pets themselves, as this has been the case in China and Japan.

Morphological Features
Head brown with two variable testaceous bands. Frons and clypeus dark with a light central mushroom-shaped marking on the frons. Head yellowish-brown with two broad dark bands, one on the occiput and one between the eyes. Pronotum with a characteristic pattern of three dark triangular markings. In males, tegmina cover two-thirds of the abdomen and contain four harp veins. Posterior tibia armed with eleven spines on the basal side.
