Megascelis

Leaf Beetle

Megascelis is a genus of leaf beetles in the subfamily Eumolpinae. It is known from both North and South America. There are around 140 described species in Megascelis. The genus is traditionally placed in the tribe Megascelidini, which was formerly considered a separate subfamily. However, according to ITIS, it is now placed in Eumolpini.

Morphological Features

Dorsum dark, relatively dull green with a broad ocher lateral stripe on elytra. Elytra with tight transverse punctures and dense golden pubescence. Pronotum finely transversely rugose. Males with notorious metafemoral modification.
