Morphological Features

Adult body length 8.53 mm (male from Tianjin). Wing polymorphism present, producing brachypterous and macropterous forms. Mouthparts piercing-sucking, arising from front of head capsule and extending back along ventral side of body; labium four-segmented, bisected by a longitudinal groove containing the stylet fascicle. Proximal labial segment broad, of uniform width through most of its length with distal part widened; third segment shorter than second, broad and nearly uniform in width. Maxillary stylets externally smooth, interlocking to form a larger food canal and a smaller salivary canal, with five tubercles near tip of right stylet. No obvious differences between sexes except mouthpart length: female total length 3435.88 ± 90.79 μm, male 3169.93 ± 70.53 μm.
