Polyamia

Members of the genus Polyamia are recognized by the presence of supernumerary crossveins in the forewing. In the subgenus Polyamia (Polyamia), supernumerary crossveins occur in both the clavus and corium, the aedeagus is relatively long and slender, and the medial posterior lobe of female abdominal sternite VII is either absent or no wider than the lateral lobes. In the subgenus Polyamia (Copolyamia), supernumerary crossveins are present only in the clavus, the aedeagus is relatively short and stout, and the female seventh abdominal sternite has a broad posterior median lobe overlapping smaller paired lateral lobes. In North America, the extra forewing crossveins distinguish Polyamia from other genera, though this character also occurs in Matsumuratettix and Maiestas in the Old World.
