Holopothrips

Body length about 2.2–2.4 mm. Head longer than wide, with transverse lines of sculpture; postocular setae present, about as long as dorsal width of eye, apex acute to blunt. Eyes well-developed, dorsal length about 0.4 of head length. Antennae 8-segmented; segments I–II concolourous with head, III–VI lighter or bicoloured, VII–VIII shaded; segment III with 3 sense cones, IV with 3 sense cones plus an additional small sense cone. Maxillary stylets parallel, retracted to posterior margin of eyes, less than 0.2 of head width apart. Pronotum with 6 major pairs of setae; anteromarginal setae reduced; epimeral setae two pairs; metanotum with one or two pairs of anterior discal setae and one pair of median major setae; sculpture medially of longitudinally elongate reticles, sometimes weakly defined. Fore wings with median dark line usually absent or weakly indicated; sub-basal setae with capitate or blunt apex. Tergites II–VII with three pairs of wing-retaining setae. Tergite IX setae S1 blunt to slightly capitate, S2 blunt, S3 finely acute. Tube about 0.85 of head length, about 2.3 times as long as greatest width near base, apical width about 0.5 of basal width. Sternite VIII with pore plates: males with a transverse band posterior to discal setae; females with a small transverse pore plate. Legs with femora concolourous with body, mid and hind tibiae lighter near apex, fore tibiae and all tarsi yellow. Body colour variable: often uniformly brown or bicoloured with abdomen yellow and head and abdominal segment X brown.
