Aspidolea

Body elongate, robust, dorsum yellow to brownish, generally lacking maculae but highly variable, with or without black or brown maculae on pronotum and elytra. Clypeus robust, broad, sides parallel at base, apical margin perpendicular to sides, appearing quadrate in dorsal view. Maxillary galea toothless or with reduced teeth (2 small apical teeth, 1 greatly reduced basal tooth, medial teeth variable, often obscured by dense setae); apex of galea with dense brush of penicillate setae. Pronotum with basal margin broadly incomplete or completely beaded. Anterior edge of hindwing distal to apical hinge lacking setae and with produced, membranous border.
