Helionothrips

Members of the genus Helionothrus are readily recognised within the subfamily Panchaetothripinae by the following character states: posterior part of head forming a wide transverse concave collar; vertex with a strong transverse ridge; antennal segments III and IV with curved forked sense cones; abdominal tergites with a distinctive arched antecostal ridge; metanotum with a strongly developed triangular area. Body colour variable, head yellow anterior to fore ocellus and between antennal bases; antennal segments I and II yellow or yellowish brown to dark brown; fore wing colour patterns differ among species, often with a sub-basal white band and apical half pale or brown. Pronotum entirely covered with reticles, which may have internal wrinkles in some species. Abdominal tergite VIII posterior margin with a complete or medially interrupted comb. Males with pore plates on sternites VI–VIII or V–VIII.
