Heteropternis is a genus of grasshoppers in the family Acrididae, subfamily Oedipodinae, and tribe Epacromiini. The recorded distribution of species in Heteropternis is from Africa and India through to Japan, Malesia, and Papua New Guinea.

Morphological Features

Size medium, form slender. Antennae filiform, slightly thickened towards apex, reaching hind margin of pronotum or somewhat longer, yellowish brown, darker apically. Head brown with irregular blackish spots, dots or stripes. Frontal ridge convex in profile and slightly reclinate, distinctly narrowed at fastigium, gradually widened towards clypeus. Fastigium of vertex sloping, forming a somewhat angulated arch with frontal ridge, broader than long, narrowed in front, surface concave, without median keel, separated from vertex by an incomplete keel or rugosity. Pronotum short, constricted in prozona, rugosely punctured; median keel well developed, sharp; lateral lobes with two shining dots in anterior part. Elytra with all areas of apical half with transverse veinlets forming elongate cellules. Wings hyaline, coloured basally, without dark transverse band. Hind tibiae red, with small yellow ring basally, extreme tip infuscated; spines reddish with black tips, spurs yellowish-brown with black tips. Cerci short, obtusely conical. Subgenital plate longer than broad, posterior margin rounded.
