Odontothrips

Odontothrips is similar to the Australian genus Odontothripiella but can be recognized by a curved, very small tubercle on the fore tibiae. Ocellar setae I present, setae III much elongate. Antennae 8-segmented, segment I with 2 dorsoapical setae, III–IV with forked sense-cones, III–VI with some rows of microtrichia on both dorsal and ventral surfaces, VI with inner sense-cone usually having wide base at least one-third as long as length of inner margin of segment. Mesonotum with median pair of setae near posterior margin. Fore wing first vein with setal row nearly complete, usually with subapical short gap in setal row and 2 distal setae. Male abdominal tergite IX with a pair of stout setae at or near posterior margin; tergite VIII with a group of irregular-arranged microtrichia anterior to each spiracle, posteromarginal comb present at each side, but lacking medially; tergite X with longitudinal median split at distal half, split often very weak; sternites III–VII with three pairs of posteromarginal setae, II with two pairs. Fore tibia with one or two inner apical teeth, but these may be reduced. Abdominal tergite VIII without paired ctenidia laterally, but with small group of irregular microtrichial rows anterolateral to spiracles; tergite VIII of female with posteromarginal comb of microtrichia broadly interrupted medially, sometimes consisting of few lateral microtrichia.
