Calliteara pudibunda, the pale tussock, is a moth of the family Erebidae. The Dutch common name for the moth (Meriansborstel) comes from the butterfly and insect painter Maria Sibylla Merian. The species was first described by Carl Linnaeus in his 1758 10th edition of Systema Naturae. It is found in Asia and Europe.

Morphological Features
Pupa. Sculpture fine on most parts; secondary setae bright straw yellow and onionlike enlarged and dark at the base on dorsum of basal abdominal segments. Metanotum medium shallow arch-like cut out, its frontal projections wide and obtusely round. Cremaster medium in length, tapering and pointly rounded at the end, with fine longitudinal furrows prior to end in ventral view, with secondary setae on sides and dorsal side, and with a brush of dark-brown hooks at the end.
