Heterothrips

Head wider than long, with only short setae; ocellar region with only two pairs of setae. Antennae 9-segmented; segments III and IV with a single row of sensory pores; antennal segment I–II and V–IX brown, II paler apically; segment III with pale basal half subdivided into several parts in some species. Pronotum broadly reticulate, with no long setae and bearing about 25 discal setae. Metanotum covered with microtrichia, with concentric lines of sculpture, sometimes almost forming a triangle medially. Fore wing slender, wider at base, with two rows of conspicuous and hyaline setae; both veins with complete rows of setae; fore wings largely pale basally. Fore tibia largely yellow with light brown markings; mid and hind tibia brown medially, yellow at base and apex. Abdominal sternites without craspeda, with 8 pairs of posteromarginal setae; sternites II–VIII with median pair of setae well developed, arising close together. Male with oval or transverse pore plates on abdominal sternites VII–VIII; some species with a pair of dorsolateral finger-like projections on tergite IX.
