Calpodes

The genus Calpodes is diagnosed by male facies characters. The ventral forewing has a purple gloss area between veins M1 and M3 from the discocellular vein to a small semi-hyaline spot in cell M2-M3 near vein M3. The cell Sc-R1 is mostly dark-yellow from the base to near the origin of vein R1, and cell C-Sc is darker, tawny. The forewing discal cell spot has a shorter upper segment (less than twice as long as the lower segment). The ventral hindwing has overlapping semi-hyaline spots, typically a rounder spot between veins M1 and M3, frequently separated into two spots by vein M2. The basal 2/5ths of the ventral hindwing is paler and more olive with a maroon tint basad, and there is a bright gold-yellow with orange tint distal patch in the basal half of the anal area. The anal area of the ventral hindwing has a tawny patch in the middle from its base to the middle. Females have two (not three) subapical semi-hyaline spots on the forewing and a wider cream-colored area at the base of the ventral hindwing.
