Body slender or moderately robust. Pronotum strongly arched for almost entire length, median carina well-marked (paratecta species group) or slightly arched or straight with median carina usually not well-marked. Anterior margin of pronotum with a spine of varying development; spine small, not covering vertex, or longer, almost completely covering vertex. Head in lateral view robust and less elongated; in dorsal view not acuminate. Eyes of medium size, occupying a quarter of cephalic capsule, in lateral view not covering vertex, or conspicuous, occupying a third of cephalic capsule, partially covering vertex. Fastigium not forming an almost right angle, more rounded with vertex. Fascial carinae surpassing fastigium and vertex in lateral view, or not protruding. Tegmina with a transverse stripe near apex or an ovoid spot. Median carina of pronotum usually without emargination over tegmina, or with emargination. Pronotum with or without lateral carinae. Apex of pronotum not quite reaching tip of hind femora or surpassing it notoriously. Hind tibia with apical internal spurs moderately developed. Ovipositor first and third valves with or without hook-like tip. Body color differentiated, yellowish brown pronotal disc, rest brown or black. Brachypronotal or macropronotal forms occur in same species; neotenic condition and sexual dimorphism present.
