Silene dichotoma is a species of flowering plant in the family Caryophyllaceae known by the common name forked catchfly. It is native to Eurasia and it is known in other parts of the temperate world, such as sections of North America, where it is a weed that grows in disturbed habitat. It is an annual herb growing up to 80 centimeters tall. The lance-shaped leaves are up to 8 centimeters long on the lower stem and are smaller higher up. Each flower is encapsulated in an inflated calyx of sepals lined with ten veins. It is open at the tip, revealing five white to red petals, each with two lobes and sometimes taking a curled form.

PRJNA1124948 SRX24981875 SRP514933 weed RNA-SEQ of Silene dichotoma Ehrh. Plant tissue was ground in liquid nitrogen and stored at -80C before RNA extraction. RNA was extracted from all samples following steps 2-7 from the protocol of Wang et. al.(2012) and continued from step 2 in the RNAeasy plant kit (Qiagen, Inc., Valencia, CA, USA) manual. Quality and concentration of the extracted RNA was measured using NanoDrop (Thermo Fisher Scientific, Inc., Wilmington, DE, USA). RNA-seq library preparation and sequencing of the samples were performed at SciLifeLabs Facility in Stockholm, Sweden (https://www.scilifelab.se/). 2x100bp paired end read libraries were prepared using TruSeq Stranded Total RNA LT Sample Prep Kit - Set A (with Ribo-Zero Plant).
