Chaetocnema confinis

Body length 1.50–1.70 mm (Oriental specimens) or about 2.00 mm (North American specimens); body width 0.80–1.00 mm. Body small, black to dark bronze, moderately glossy; young adults not fully sclerotized are light brown with lighter legs. Antennae pale brown; femora brown to dark brown, tibiae brown to pale brown, tarsi pale brown; ventral surface black to dark brown. Hind femora greatly enlarged. Vertex alutaceous, with 5–6 punctures on each side near eye, medially impunctate. Frons without punctures in triangular area. Frontal ridge width 1.40–1.45 times antennal socket width. Antenna length 0.64–0.65 times body length. Pronotum width at base 1.70–1.75 times length; lateral margins slightly convex, converging forward; without longitudinal impressions near basal margin; deep row of large punctures at base absent. Elytra striately punctate, not pubescent; interspaces between striae smooth and glabrous; elytron length along suture 2.00–2.20 times maximum width; elytron length 2.70–2.80 times pronotum length; width of elytra at base 1.02–1.10 times pronotum width at base. Aedeagus in ventral view narrowing gradually with obscure polygonal markings laterally; in lateral view unevenly curved, somewhat sinusoidal near apex. Female last visible abdominal tergite with a longitudinal groove in middle, fully covered with distant punctures, punctures closer in apical half.
