Morphological Features

Adults of Carnidae are small flies, about 2–3 mm in length. The body is generally reddish-brown in color. The head bears antennae and mouthparts typical of the family. The thorax has legs and wings; in some species, adults lose their wings after locating a host. The abdomen is present. The puparium is cylindrical or barrel-shaped, with annular ornamentations distributed over most of its length.
