Morphological Features

Head and pronotum covered with transverse or reticulated striae; head and most of pronotum unsculptured in some species. Median pores absent on abdominal tergites. Tergite IX with minute setae. Median paired setae on tergites II–IV close to each other, more widely separated on tergites V–VIII. Sternal setae on sternites II–VI arise far ahead of posterior margin in some species (formerly Corcithrips). Pronotum with or without a blotch; when present, shape and degree of chitinization variable. Wings usually fully developed in both sexes; forewing first vein setal row complete, second vein with 0–2 distal setae. Mesosternal spinula present or absent (absent in Sariathrips). Forewing cilia straight in some species.
