Orchelimum

Body slender to robust, small to medium size. General coloration green to brown, almost invariably with a dark, wide stripe on head and pronotum; sometimes dorsal side of abdomen yellow with dark longitudinal stripes. Head: fastigium of vertex 0.75–1.4 times as wide as scapus, laterally compressed, rounded apically, never cone-shaped; eyes large relative to head size, weakly protruding; tegumen of head smooth, without genal carinae. Thorax: pronotum short, dorsal surface smooth, flat or metazona slightly raised; lateral lobes approximately triangular, humeral sinus weak to well developed, posterior edge with well-developed secondary tympanum; thoracic auditory spiracle large, elliptical, completely hidden under lateral pronotal lobe. Wings: tegmina surpassing apex of abdomen but not reaching hind femoral apices; stridulatory area of left wing membranous, without secondary veinlets; mirror of right wing approximately rectangular, with secondary veinlet next to AA1 well developed, divergent from AA1. Legs: fore coxa with elongate forward-projecting dorsal spine; fore and mid tibiae unarmed dorsally, ventral margins with immovable spines 1/4–1/2 tibial diameter; hind tibia armed on all four dorsal and ventral margins; apex with two pairs of ventral and one pair of dorsal movable spurs; tympanum on fore tibia bilaterally closed, slits facing forward, tympanal area weakly to distinctly swollen with pair of small elongated pits below slits. Abdomen: dorsal surface of terga smooth, unmodified; male 10th tergite strongly sclerotized with narrow apical incision, supraanal plate small, triangular; ovipositor weakly to distinctly curved, lower and upper edges parallel to divergent midlength, distinctly shorter than hind femur (ratio 0.6–0.7), weakly upcurved.
