Family-level diagnosis: Body length 2.8–6.0 mm, maximum combined width 0.9–1.5 mm. Head with neck one-third of head width; maxillary palpomere 2–3 slightly widened and rounded distally, terminal palpomere scalene-triangular. Antennae with apical three antennomeres greatly lengthened, antennomeres 4–8 distally rounded. Pronotum smooth dorsally, with or without antebasal sulcus; antebasal sulcus when present ends in a pit at some distance from procoxa; pronotum lacking apical rim or collar in some subfamilies. Procoxae elongate, truncate fusiform; procoxal cavities open internally and externally. Mesoventrite triangular, not completely fused with mesepisterna; mesocoxal cavities not isolated from mesepisterna. Elytra elongate, smooth and shiny, 2.4× as long as maximum combined width and 1.5× as long as forebody, with or without postbasal transverse impression; elytral punctures fine and sparse in some taxa. Tarsal formula 5-5-5; tarsal claw with spinose ventral appendage or basally denticulate. Abdomen with intercoxal process of 1st ventrite broadly rounded. Female tergite VII and sternite VII broadly rounded and densely setose apically.
