Podothrips

Head smooth, longer than wide, with one pair of postocular setae. Ocelli developed but small, anterior ocellus situated at inter-antennal projection. Antennae 8-segmented; segment III with (1+1) sense cones, segment IV with (1+1) or (1+1+1) sense cones; segment VIII conical, not constricted at base. Mouth cone short and rounded; maxillary stylets usually reaching postocular setae, about 1/3 of head width apart; maxillary bridge present. Prothorax with 3 or 4 pairs of developed setae, am setae reduced, ml setae often reduced; notopleural sutures complete. Prosternal basantra unusually longer than wide. Fore femora enlarged; fore tibia often with inner subapical tooth or tubercle; fore tarsus with well-developed apical tooth in both sexes. Forewing fully developed, slightly constricted medially, with or without duplicated cilia. Abdominal tergites II–VII each with two pairs of wing-retaining setae, second pair on VII often reduced to straight setae in female. Tube shorter than head; anal setae longer than tube. Male abdominal tergite IX with S2 setae short; sternite VIII without pore plate.
