Atractotomus

Adult Atractotomus are small, macropterous mirids, total length 2.15–3.70 mm. Body moderately to elongate, dorsum with moderately to densely distributed, broad, flattened, apically serrate or pointed, white scalelike setae and suberect to reclining simple setae. Head with vertex wide, approximately equal to one-half width of head across eyes; region anterior to antennal insertion elongate. Antennal segment 2 length variable, from less than to much greater than width of head across eyes, of uniform diameter. Labium long, reaching from hind coxae to middle of abdominal venter or genital segment in males, to base of ovipositor in females. Pronotum trapezoidal, width about two times length, broadly rounded posterolaterally, lateral and posterior margins nearly straight. Thoracic pleura and abdominal venter sometimes with scalelike setae. Legs with tibiae pale, with black basal spine spots. Dorsum coloration variable, often uniformly chestnut, brownish red, or dark reddish brown to nearly black; sometimes head, calli, anterior pronotum, mesoscutum, and scutellum dark, posterior pronotum and hemelytra paler.
