Dactylopiidae
TaxID: 38115
Basic Information
Dactylopiidae
Cochineal Insects, Cochineal Scales, cochineal scales
Dactylopius is a genus of insect in the superfamily Coccoidea, the scale insects. It is the only genus in the family Dactylopiidae. These insects are known commonly as cochineals, a name that also specifically refers to the best-known species, the cochineal (Dactylopius coccus). The cochineal is an insect of economic and historical importance as a main source of the red dye carmine. It has reportedly been used for this purpose in the Americas since the 10th century. Genus Dactylopius is also important because several species have been used as agents of biological pest control, and because several are known as invasive species.

PRJNA272238 SRX893508 SRP055646 insect Transcriptome of Dactylopius confuses: Sample Dacon - Dactylopius confuses "Construction of libraries and sequencing on the Illumina HiSeq2500 were performed at the W. M. Keck Center for Comparative and Functional Genomics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Messenger RNA was selected from one microgram of high quality total RNA. RNAseq libraries were constructed using the TruSeq Stranded RNA Sample Preparation Kit (Illumina, San Diego, CA). Libraries were sequenced on an Illumina HiSeq2500 with TruSeq SBS sequencing kits version 3. The libraries were sequenced from both ends of the molecules to a total read length of 100nt from each end. The raw .bcl files were converted into demultiplexed fastq files with Casava 1.8.2 (Illumina)." {'breed': 'wildtype', 'tissue': 'whole organism', 'lat_lon': '27.1708 N 81.3482 W', 'dev_stage': 'adult', 'collected_by': 'Nathaniel Hardy', 'geo_loc_name': 'USA: Florida, Highlands Co., Archibold Biological Station', 'biosamplemodel': 'Invertebrate', 'collection_date': '2013-10-20', 'biomaterial_provider': 'Nathaniel Hardy, Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology, Auburn University, Auburn, Alabama 36849, USA'} |
