Pheidole fervens

Major worker: head very large, oblong, narrowest in front, deeply emarginate behind, with lateral angles rounded and a central channel extending to base of clypeus; head covered with fine elevated carinae with fine transverse reticulations between them; frons and anterior part of vertex rugose longitudinally; posterior part of vertex and dorsal face of vertexal lobe rugoso-reticulate with weakly punctured interspaces; area between antennal insertion and eye weakly rugoso-punctate; median part of clypeus smooth, without a median longitudinal carina; scape extending far beyond posterolateral margin of head; maximal diameter of eye almost as long as or shorter than antennal segment X; promesonotal dome in dorsal view largely smooth or sparsely sculptured with weak transverse rugulae, in lateral view with a low to conspicuous mound on its posterior slope; metathorax with two short, erect, acute spines; first gastral tergite smooth and shining entirely or sometimes shagreened around articulation with postpetiole; body ferruginous, flagellum, legs, metathorax, and nodes of abdomen pale rufo-testaceous. Minor worker: body length not more than a line; very smooth and shining, pale rufo-testaceous with abdomen fuscous; head of ordinary size; legs and antennae more elongate than in major; head in full-face view with posterior margin shallowly concave; frons and vertex smooth and shining or rarely shagreened or very weakly rugoso-punctate; scape extending far beyond posterolateral margin of head; maximal diameter of eye much shorter than antennal segment X; promesonotal dome largely smooth and shining, sometimes weakly rugoso-punctate dorsolaterally, in lateral view with a low or inconspicuous mound on its gentle posterior slope.
