Saperda populnea

Body length 9.5–13.0 mm in females, 8.0–12.0 mm in males; subcylindrical. Head with frons convex, broader than long (about 5 times broader than width of one eye lobe), weakly covered with whitish or orange-brown pubescence and numerous dark brown, long erect hairs; genae straight, acutely narrowing towards mouthparts, posteriorly with long fringes of yellowish or whitish hairs. Eyes with lower eye lobes slightly longer than broad, as long as gena below. Labrum with appressed whitish pubescence and numerous long, suberect orange-brown setae. Antennae with annulation on segments greyish, covering about 3/4 of anterior part of each segment. Pronotum subcylindrical, slightly broader than long, lacking lateral spines; disk convex, with weak median line often glabrous and shining medially, base shallowly impressed, coarse punctures except medially, densely covered with long erect brown hairs, two broad lateral yellowish stripes with weak median line interrupted medially. Scutellum U-shaped, weakly covered with whitish hairs or glabrous. Elytra with reduced pubescence, mainly yellowish to whitish. Legs with tignum almost straight, 6.5–8.2 mm long. Tergite VIII 0.6–1.0 mm long, relatively large, rounded, posterior margin concave in middle, densely covered with white pubescence and numerous long brown hairs. Aedeagus 2.0–2.3 mm long, evenly curved towards apex, compressed dorso-ventrally.
