Alagoasa

Body broadly ovoid, length 6.7–10.15 mm, width 4.95–8.15 mm. Color variable, from stramineous to piceous, always very shiny; body dark blood red in some species. Head ovate, vertex glabrous with a few punctures and one long post-ocular seta. Eyes oval, protruding, sub-hemispherical, with large ommatidia. Antennae filiform, all segments bearing 2–5 long setae at apices, apical segments densely invested with short fine hairs. Frontal ridge narrow. Pronotum weakly convex, brilliantly shining, appearing impunctate; sides widely explanate, anterior angles produced forward covering posterior 1/3 of eye, posterior angles acuminate, pointed outwards. Elytral margin broad, slightly concave, more coarsely punctate than disc, often transparent, posterior 1/4 bearing evenly spaced setae. Legs robust; metafemur incrassate, as wide as length of tarsomeres I–III; first tarsomeres enlarged on pro- and mesothoracic legs, especially in males; apical metatarsus globosely swollen. Prosternal process with a sharp longitudinal keel. Abdomen with five visible segments.
